First of all, could you please tell us more about this celebratory advertisement?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Light novel “Too many losing heroines! ' will be made into an anime,An advertisement expressing congratulations to the original authors.All the fans hit it together.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:It was aired for one month from June 30th to July 31st at Kalmia Vision in Toyohashi Station.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Yes, that's right.
When it was decided that it would be made into an anime, I thought, ``Let's give it a try'' and started working on it!

BirthdayJAPAN staff:The original story is set in Toyohashi, right?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: That's right. Previously, “There are too many losing heroines! When we collaborated with JR Tokai, we ran an advertisement in Kalmia Vision.

"A fan placed an advertisement in the same place at that time."I thought it would be great to be able to accomplish something like that, and I wanted to share the excitement of accomplishing something big with my fans.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: How did the fans react?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:When soliciting cooperation, I couldn't tell you the name of the vision because it wasn't allowed by the terms and conditions.“Maybe it’s that big screen!”The fans noticed this!

After the ad aired, some people said, "Today's routine!" and went to see it every day! (Laughs) I thought it was a good idea.

It seems that you have created a new account, but how did the participants find out about the project?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:I had acquaintances repost it, and JR Tokai's account also spread the word, so I think a lot of people got to know about it.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Is there any reason why you decided to run a celebratory advertisement?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:I have been a fan of your work since the time you debuted. When it was decided to make it into an anime“What can I do as a fan?”With this in mind, we published a congratulatory ad.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:As you said earlier, was it also because you wanted to send support to the original author?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: That's right. I wanted to firmly convey that the anime adaptation is exciting.

"This work is getting this much attention!" "This work is being loved so much!"I thought it would be better for the fans to convey that.

Many of the fans of the work are the type of people who have a hard time expressing their thoughts in words, so we have no choice but to take action in the form of a congratulatory advertisement that no one would think of! There are some places where I thought that and moved!

First challenge! The path to celebratory advertising without using an agency

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Is this your first time running a congratulatory ad?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:Yes! It was all my first time!

BirthdayJAPAN staff:To get straight to the point...Is there a reason why you did everything yourself without using an agency?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:I don't know where to go...(lol)
There were many agencies that handled idols in Kurafan, but I never saw the word "anime".
There was no place where anime fans could gather, so I had no choice but to do it myself! That's what I thought.

One of the reasons was that I didn't think I would be able to get it done in time because I think I would need to get permission from an agent.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:When you started planning the celebration advertisement, what did you start with?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:First of allmedia priceI looked into it.

I looked at the price and it seemed possible, so I looked into who I should contact next.
When doing this on my own, it was difficult to know who to contact and where to check.

I was very surprised to learn that just because it's Kalmia Vision, it doesn't mean you can just contact the facility itself.
I spent a lot of time researching these things.

Then, when I contacted JR Tokai, I learned that a group application was required, so I looked into whether I could apply as an individual if my application was not successful.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:It is true that it is difficult to know what inquiries and applications are required when trying to do it yourself.

Walls that stand in the way of your first challenge...Hardships from video editing to collecting money

BirthdayJAPAN staff:It must have been a long process from contacting the media company to producing the video, but what were some of the difficulties you faced in doing it yourself?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Editing the video was the most difficult part.
I had to do all the work of adding animation (movement) to each character and making adjustments to equalize the voices with different volumes, so it was a bit daunting (lol)

I finally completed it about 20 minutes before the deadline, and I was so happy that I was able to do it! (lol)

I didn't even know that you could request video production, so I'd definitely like to use it next time.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:It was your first time editing a video, so starting from scratch was difficult.
Was there anything else that was difficult for you?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:I was worried because I didn't know when to collect money from participants.

Then, as a person who collects money,I felt anxious when I thought I might have to provide personal account information or link information.
In the end, we collected money from everyone through PayPay and dPay, but that was a little difficult.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: We must be careful about information that connects us to individuals.
Did your inquiry to the media company go smoothly?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: That's right.
JR Tokai had been collaborating with them since the original work, so they may have wanted to work together on the anime adaptation.

When I told them that it was my first time to run an advertisement as an individual, the person in charge was very supportive and gave me detailed information on what to prepare and the schedule.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:What kind of schedule did you use to prepare?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: We start moving around April 15th, and apply for a group to the person in charge of vision around the 22nd.
Somehow, the application was successful, and we started recruiting people for cooperation in the celebration advertisement around the 26th and 27th.
We were making progress at the very last minute.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:I think you were working with the fans, but were you managing the event by yourself?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: We had one person help us with the application for the congratulatory advertisement, one person with the proposal, and one person with sending DMs to the fans, so it was actually a team of four people.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:How did you approach the person who is helping you?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: I spoke individually to people I knew who were fans of the work!

BirthdayJAPAN staff:What was everyone's reaction?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:"Sounds good! Let's do it!"He cooperated with us!

However, since there should be misunderstandings, I decided to write and explain the details in detail so that there were no mistakes in words.

We made detailed preparations so that we could work together with people who shared 100% the same feelings as the planners.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: What points did you pay particular attention to to avoid misunderstandings?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:First of all, as a celebration advertiser's account, I did not tweet about unrelated things and tried not to give the account a personality.
I also tried to give the impression that it wasn't suspicious or dangerous.

I also wanted to avoid people leaving the project midway through, so I created a proposal that stated, ``This is how we're going to do it, and this is how we're going to do it,'' and asked people who agreed with it to participate.

Also, to avoid causing any inconvenience to the official account or the original author, we made sure that if you had any questions, please contact our account.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:I think it was a very elaborate proposal, but what was the process for creating it?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:Anyway, I had to create a proposal in order to let everyone understand the plan I had in mind.
I explained my intentions to one person, gave a presentation, and received their advice as I created it.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: So you were able to output and refine it.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:Well, I corrected it more than 10 times (lol)
I made it by arguing over and over, saying "No!" and "No, no!" over and over again!

Even if we have the same goal, I think there are times when we run into conflicts.
I think it's because there isn't enough explanation, so it's better to discuss it with your friends beforehand to avoid conflicts.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: You're right.
When I saw the proposal, I thought it must have taken a lot of time.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:Using an illustration other than the official cover art would cause copyright issues and financial burdens, so I designed it using only fan art.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: Was it ever said that if it's fan art, it's okay to run a congratulatory advertisement?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Even in congratulatory advertisements for Korean idols, I think there are parts where fans voluntarily approve of things that would otherwise be unacceptable.

It's treated the same way at comic markets, etc.“The fans did it voluntarily.”We carried out a celebratory advertisement.

Rights issues become more severe when anime production companies are involved.I thinkSo,It would be easier to make it happen if it was a way of expressing gratitude and celebrating the original work.I think so.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: It's eye-opening! You focused on the ``purpose of the celebratory advertisement'' and approached the original work.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: That's right!
Fans have a love for the characters in the work, so they like both the anime's art and the original's art.
The anime's illustrations are drawn close to the original's illustrations, and this time I thought it would be more successful to approach the original.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: at the initial stage"There is no problem because we use fan art rather than official pictures. It has nothing to do with the official art."I explained that, and everyone seemed to understand.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:There were two ways to participate: "Donation" and "Fan Art."

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:I wanted to avoid a situation where I couldn't get enough art, so I thought it would be easier to get more art if I could participate in events with my own art, other than through donations.

"Pictures are collected for events" "My drawings can be seen by many people"If this becomes a reality, it will be a win-win for both of us!
Thanks to all of you, in the end, we had so many pictures that we had to turn them down.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:They took advantage of the fact that many of their fans can draw! As expected. Everyone was very cooperative.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner:If you are an otaku yourself, you can kind of understand how otaku feel...
I was very grateful that some people also donated after drawing pictures.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:Did the campaign go well?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: About half of us gathered in the first week!
By the deadline of May 15th, we had exceeded the target amount, so we used the money to pay for illustrations of characters for which we could not collect drawings.

The show was originally scheduled to air from July 1st, but we asked for additional support and had it aired from June 30th.

In the end, we raised about 170,000 yen.
How much do you all love it? ? That's it! (lol)

BirthdayJAPAN staff: The enthusiasm of the fans is amazing!
I'm sure everyone had a strong desire to celebrate.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Yes, I think that's probably the case.
I was working very hard not to disappoint everyone's expectations, so I think that part of it was because they saw that and cooperated with me.

In the end, 42 people participated,The importance of facing each other sincerelyI realized it again.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:How was it once again, starting from the planning stage and running the congratulatory advertisement yourself?

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: I was happy, but even though the ad was aired alongside a company ad, the volume wasn't quite right...I remember thinking it was frustrating (lol)

But seeing everyone happyI was slowly filled with joy and was glad I did it.I thought so.

BirthdayJAPAN staff:There was both frustration and happiness.
It must have attracted attention from various media and had many opportunities to be featured.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: Before the congratulatory advertisement was published, we received a request from Higashi Aichi Shimbun for an interview, and they covered it.
It was reprinted on Yahoo! News, and was also featured in the Chunichi Shimbun's Higashi Mikawa edition.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: After reading the article, I felt that it was a very exciting celebratory advertisement.

McCain Animation Celebration Planner: I don't really feel it.

I presented illustrations to the people who helped out, and they thanked me by saying, ``Thank you for such a wonderful project,'' so I think they were happy.

BirthdayJAPAN staff: In the end, a congratulatory ad was released and there were interviews, so I get the impression that the fans were happy as well.
